The federal government has announced a six-month amnesty window for irregular migrants in the country to voluntarily turn in themselves to the Nigeria Immigration Service for the purpose of free electronic registration.
Talking at the Official Commissioning of the Migrant e-Registration and the Passport Data Processing Centers yesterday in Abuja, President Muhammadu Buhari who was spoken to by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation SGF, Boss Mustapha, depicted the move as government's conscious pledge to tackling precise information of its natives and insights of transients, particularly the individuals who wish to remain past 90 days inside the shores of Nigeria. 

He said the focuses are noteworthy to the country's drive for hearty interior security and national advancement, including that "while the Migrant e-Registration Center will group and store information of non-Nigerians inside our shores, the Passport Application Processing Center, then again, will give improved issuance of international IDs and wipe out touting just as defilement in accordance no sweat of Doing Business, hence, advancing straightforwardness and proficiency in administration conveyance". 

On his part, Comptroller General, Nigeria Immigration Service NIS, Muhammad Babandede said the appointing of the Migrant e-Registration Center is noteworthy as it kick-begins the e-Registration of all vagrants in Nigeria. 

He stated, the Immigration Regulations 2017, under Section 22 subsection 1 and 2 gives that; "The Service will keep up a Registry of Immigrants" and "That a register of all Immigrants will be kept in the vault containing such data and specifics of an Immigrant as the Comptroller General may every once in a while direct. It is on this premise I guided the register to be in an e-structure.
